L7 Executive and Performance Coaching

L7 Executive and Performance Coaching

Executive coaching programmes are powerful, focused and effective development tools for professionals looking to improve their performance. They are an interactive process designed to help individuals achieve rapid development through targeted and skilled conversations with an expert coach.

Whilst most commonly bought in as a programme to enable change and transition, accelerate career progression or for specific project support, with my expertise in advanced communication and behavioural psychology I’m often asked to enable or up-skill individuals to overcome specific blockages to their progression, confidence or motivation, and to improve communication, formal presenting and leadership skills.

Experience the Benefits!

There are many benefits to be gained from engaging in executive and performance coaching, typically at this point we’d turn to ROI figures for proof, however in the world of coaching where extensive ROI figures are limited due to the bespoke, person-centred and often confidential nature of the work, I’ve brought you a review of some of the larger research studies that have been conducted within the industry:

Performance

Research undertaken by the Institute of Leadership and Management based on the results of learning and development professionals in 250 large organisations identified the following benefits from engaging in an executive coaching programme:

  • Improved communication and interpersonal skills
  • Increased confidence and motivation
  • Improved conflict resolution
  • Improvements in efficiency and effectiveness of performance
  • Reduced workplace errors
  • Improved performance in managers

Additional research by Jones et al (2014) also reported that executive coaching has a greater impact on overall performance compared with other popular workplace development tools due to the bespoke nature of the intervention.

Wellbeing

Extended benefits of executive coaching entered the realm of wellbeing way before ‘workplace wellbeing’ was an established ‘thing’.  Research produced by Grant et al in 2009, demonstrated that executive coaching and having a ‘critical friend’ significantly increased goal attainment, resilience and overall wellbeing, whilst decreasing levels of stress and depression.

Now that ‘workplace wellbeing’ it is a ‘thing’, and it’s importance has been sweeping the media, we’re all acutely aware of the positive correlation between increasing wellbeing with enhanced productivity, creativity, employee retention and a decreased absenteeism bill (BUPA, 2017)…benefits that bring far-reaching added value for business.

Crunching the Numbers

And because I knew you’d still value some numbers to crunch…. here’s a few figures to consider:

A recent study of Executive Coaching in a Fortune 500 firm by MetrixGlobal reported a 529% return on investment and significant intangible benefits to the business.

A survey by Manchester Inc. of 100 executives found that coaching provided an average return on investment of almost six times the cost of the coaching. Benefits highlighted by the companies and employees who invested in these coaching programmes include:

  • Productivity (reported by 53% of executives)
  • Quality (48%)
  • Customer service (39%)
  • Reducing customer complaints (34%)
  • Retaining executives who received coaching (32%)
  • Bottom-line profitability (22%)
  • Working relationships with direct reports (reported by 77% of executives)
  • Working relationships with immediate supervisors (71%)
  • Teamwork (67%)
  • Working relationships with peers (63%)
  • Job satisfaction (61%)
  • Conflict reduction (52%)
  • Organisational commitment (44%)
  • Working relationships with clients (37%)
